Guys and Gals
After the last screw up on email communication and wedding dates etc etc Im putting this up here...
Our wedding dates have changed because my grandfather is not well. We are hoping things all go to plan and that he's there dancing and swigging with the rest of us.
Dates - We're kicking things off with the Henna night on the 8th of December and then having our wedding on the 10th of December at my house in Dubai. The reception date is likely to be the 11th or 12th. My brother is marrying Jyoti's younger sister (Dee) on the 11th of December at home. She just got a first in Law and Gaurav came away with a Desmond (Law too) - they are both ecstatic about their results.
Anyhoo - some notes...
Please send me your postal address is you haven't already for the invites. If texting is easier text me on 07976932525.
If you think you can make it please look for tickets now. We're looking into getting service apartments for people who want to stay in Dubai at very low rates. More info to follow if you're thinking of coming!!! Expedia etc are always good - after August the tickets to Dubai start rocketing because it's cool and fantastic in the City of Gold (yes Dubai...). Tickets are available on Alitalia, Royal Brunei, Qatar Airways, Emirates and others. Royal Brunei are supposed to do good deals as do Qatar. Felch for good deals cos they can be found. I think you can get tickets for about £300 odd squid if you're lucky. But range easily upto and over £400.
Its the coldest and best time of year to be in Dubai. Once you're there you will be looked after (i.e. well fed and drunk) so its air ticket, spending money and accomodation (which should be cheap). I can promise that this wedding will be like nothing you've ever been to in your lives - bring it!!! Im really hoping to see you guys out there because you will love it, I will love it, we'll love each other if you're into that sort of thing and the rest of it....lalalalalalala. COME ON!!! All parents are also invited BTW.xxxxxx
Much love

I was thinking - in fact we were thinking - of booking some sort of ski / boarding holiday. They don't do skiing in Dubai do they?
My mum said she's looking forward to seeing you on your stag night. She's just bought herself a new cake to hide in.
Your brother and Jyoti's sister? Man I hope someone is writing this down for a new soap. Mikey?
Contratz to him by the way - on both counts.
^^ haha accidental Lawyers joke? =)
We could do sandboarding on the dunes...I'd love to go, a big chat will have to be had.

Boarding is definitely a possibility in your spare time - there are some fantastic dunes to ride whilst out there and the dune buggy tours into the desert with hookahs and belly dancers thrown in, is not to be missed - all very classy and all very must do!!!
Shopping for electronics is an almost must do as well - very cheap very latest and very wicked - in case you were wondering what to buy. Cigarettes, Alcohol is dirt cheap on the way in and out - approx. GBP5.00 or so for a litre of Smirnoff and less than four quid for a bottle of tequila!!!
Any other info needed you know where I am.
Got your text Mikey thanks. The guitarist from Wrecked Em lives in Camberly - Olly Clayton - if you bump into him say Ola - Como Es Das?
Love

Jesus... this thread is confusing hell out of me.
Gov's brother is marrying Jyoti's sister?!!?!?!
We're going to Dubai to surf and find hookers and jelly babies?
Dannyboy's Mum is going to recreate the scene from Under Siege when Erika Eleniak wops her baps out?
Never have I seen so many revelations in one place.
I hope this thread actaully gets read...
Rosie and I are most definitely going to be trekking out to dubai, we're thinking fly out on the 7th and back the 13th.
We looking into tickets at the mo, but it looks like about £325 each if we snap it up quickly.
If anyone else has made the decision yet, get in touch if you want to book together so we a can travel out as a group. Both me and Rosie need to book the time off work, but once that's done, we're gonna get tickets asap.
It's lookin' good and as Govi* said in a text msg:
QUOTE
It's gonna be phat
Sounds good to me...OK count me in boyo!

(Assuming I can get the time off as well of course.)
I've never met anyone named Jyoti, nor have I ever been to Dubai. It seems only obvious to kill these two birds with one plane flight.

I read
this article in
Popular Science recently. It mentioned a couple of audacious construction projects that are currently being untaken in Dubai, including the following one:
QUOTE
...he's about to start an even bigger project, an archipelago of 250 islands, called the World, laid out to mimic Earth's land masses. It will be 5 miles across and require 200 million cubic feet of sand, and 30 million tons of rock. "It's enormous," says Lindo. "In Europe or America it would take 10 years of planning and studies to do something like this. But in Dubai it's the other way around. We just do it as we go."

Govi*, have they started to make these islands yet?
I think you or Matt should buy a couple of them.
Both me and Rosie have booked the relevant time off, and will be booking flights before the end of the week.
If you know you can come, we can get tickets for people so we're all on the same flight but hurry 'cos we will!
Of course we'll post what flights we've got up here when we have tickets.
I'll know for certain tomorrow.
Me and Rosie are gonna be on the following flights:
BA (www.british-airways.com)
Outbound
Heathrow (London), United Kingdom to Dubai, United Arab Emirates
BA0107
Economy (Traveller) Depart:Tue 7 December 2004, Arrive:12:30 Tue 7
December 2004, 23:10
Inbound
Dubai, United Arab Emirates to Heathrow (London), United Kingdom
BA0108
Economy (Traveller) Depart:Mon 13 December 2004, Arrive:10:00 Mon 13
December 2004, 14:00
@ £372.40 each with tax.
We are booking today, Pete recommended we try thru STA to get an under 26 discount, which we haven't included in that quoted price.
We looked around the airlines and you may be able find cheaper ones, but these are direct and leave at reasonable times on the days that we wanted.
It's on!
Through STA it looks like it will cost £315 each on the same flights so I think that is the way forward.
There are cheaper flights there but they include stop-overs. I think I may well go for that this afternoon.
EDIT: Hmmm naturally when they estimated £5 for tax they really meant £45 so that makes it up to £360 and you apparently need an IYTC card which is £7...I don't know all this hidden hassle eh?
that does sound wicked...
but due to arsey wank reasons... i only have 1 day off left before xmas so i cant make it
i'll try and swing something with my bosses and let you know
although thinking about it, i land back from florida on the sunday before that (the 5th) and so i'd only be back in the country (or more precisely, in the office for 1 day before flying off again. I doubt thats plausible.
anywho
cheerio
So it begins: I have my tickets on the above flights, as have Chris and Rosie, we are sitting in 35a, b, and c there and 32 h, i, and j back...JOIN US.
I'm working on it. SAme rules apply to me as to ween tho. Very few days hols left.
is there a time limit for confirmation or WWWHA?

I'll think about it, but no promises. December is usually a time full of hassle for me, and with no job immanent even a £100 flight would look expensive. Perhaps I'll start playing the lottery.

Gentlemen - the activity on this thread since I last saw it can only be described thusly... 'healing...of an electrifyingly sexual nature'...I am very, very encouraged by the tickets already bought and sold. Huzzah! Everyone else - GET INVOLVED! You will not regret it!
Some quick notes - no I wasn't taking the piss about the boarding - all seriously doable. Even I have 'eaten sand' in my day and my ankles have never been the same. There is an indoor snow stadium being constructed on the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. We drove past it a few days ago and it looks something like the Autobot HQ. The ramps and shit can all be seen whilst driving by. Who knows - it might be ready by the time you get here. Look for pics on the web.
I am going to be 25 this year contrary to popular belief on the 19th of August. I want love!
Hookers and islands - all very real! Due to the mega surge of economic and commercial activity in this region tramps, of all shapes and varieties have been let into the country to take over a lot of its nightlife (commerce attracts businessmen attracted by hookers=good for UAE economy). The price of the ladies and their levels of fitness are relative to the establishment you find them in. No shit. As for the islands - this 'globe'looking' project is something I have heard rumours of but the more famous of the island developments is called the Palm Island strip. You can find loads and loads of information on this on www.gulfnews.com. Look also for articles with Dubailand in it and you'll get an idea of what ball park they're talking of and the nifty bits they're adding to this place. I was here 4 months ago and there are entire sky scrapers and road networks I have never seen before. The Arabs have gone mad but in a good way. You have to see it for yourselves to believe it.
COME ONE COME ALL. booya!
I managed to get enough money together to book a flight through
STA Travel. Here are the details:
Leave: December 06, 2004British Airways 109
Depart Dec 06, 2004 21:40 London Heathrow,(LHR)
Arrive Dec 07, 2004 08:30 Dubai,(DXB)
Return: December 13, 2004British Airways 104
Depart Dec 13, 2004 09:25 Dubai,(DXB)
Arrive Dec 13, 2004 13:10 London Heathrow,(LHR)
Just thought I'd post this for anyone who didn't get it.

Boys and Girls
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but my grandfather just passed away here in Dubai after a brief battle with cancer. It was unexpected, sudden and a shock to us all. He came here with the intention of attending our weddings but it wasn't to be.
As it happens, once all the funeral rites have been performed it will only been a month till the wedding and I don't think any of my family, including myself is going to be ready to celebrate the wedding. The elders of the family have requested us to postpone the weddings by a few months as a mark of respect as well because they fell they won't be able to attend should we carry on any sooner.
So this means we're postponing the wedding till we've had time to mourn my grandfather properly. It genuinely upsets me that this is going to put you guys out over tickets and leave and the rest of the arrangements we've made so far. I can't help it though and I hope it won't be hard for you to understand the situation. That said, if it is impossible for you to refund tickets or go back on any commitments you have made thus far, I would like to invite you to Dubai in December for a holiday if nothing else. At that stage we could all probably do with seeing good friends and going out for a few. I can keep your bookings with the hotel open if you would like me to. Please advise me on what to do as soon as possible because I am travelling to India with tomorrow to perform all the last rituals for my grandfather. So far there has been brief talk about moving the wedding to March. We will understand if you won't be able to make it out at that time, considering the circumstances.
If there's anyone I've missed out in this mail, please inform them. Once again I am really, really sorry that this is the way things have turned out. We were all looking forward to December and we know it hasn't been easy for you all to make preparations for the same.
With much love,
Govind and Jyoti
oh - ouch. email to govi in order i think. =/
hope you guys can sort out your tickets - you still going?
I'm still going. I believe that Chris and Rosie are too.
Mike, what are you planning to do?

Hello all avid travellers destined for Dubai in December.
Saw this on the FCO website today and thought y'all ought to be made aware of it:
QUOTE
On Tuesday 2 November 2004, the Presidential Court announced the death of the President of the UAE, His Highness Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. There will be a 40 day period of mourning.
You should not underestimate the impact of this event on the citizens of the UAE. There will be great sorrow and you should take every care not to act in any way that might cause offence to local feelings.
This period of mourning stretches through to the 12th december so the whole time we are there. This means no blatant beer swilling in the streets and be discreet with your hip flask!
I also read the following:
QUOTE
There is a high threat from terrorism against western, including British, interests. Attacks could be indiscriminate and against civilian targets, as they have been elsewhere in the region.
On 6 August 2004, a senior Al Qaeda operative was arrested in Dubai.
On 7 June 2004, an Al Qaeda website publicly threatened to carry out attacks on Westerners in the Gulf States and the Arabian Peninsula, targeting residential compounds, military bases, oil interests and transportation as well as aviation interests.
You should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners. Please read Security and General Tips and Risk of Terrorism when Travelling Overseas pages for further information and advice. Please also check the British Embassy website: United Arab Emirates: British Embassy Abu Dhabi/Dubai
You should review your security arrangements carefully. You should remain vigilant, particularly in public places.
So dont forget to take your kalashnikov's either!
Well thanks Rosie, that's certainly put my mind at rest.
