Perhaps someone could clear osmething up for me (Pete?).
At the end of the Secondary Phase of THHG, Ford, Zaphod, Arthur and Zarniwoop chat with the guy who rules the world and Arthur gets miffed and flies away in the HoG.
At the beginning of the Tertiary phase Arthur is on prehistoric Earth and decides to go mad before meeting Ford for the first time in four years and chasing a sofa.
Have I missed something or is it not supposed to make much sense just yet?
Obviously I know what went on in the books, I'm just checking.
Carry on.
There are two different theories for the discrepancy in storyline. The first comes from the
BBC Video of the recording sessions, where Simon Jones explains:
QUOTE
We'll it's not immediately following on from the last radio series, it's a slightly divergent branch. But in the world of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, several parallel universes can all be taking place at the same time.
Trillian puts forward the second and more persuasive theory in Episode One of the Tertiary Phase:
QUOTE
Trillian: You had a double psychotic episode, ran off to Ursa Minor to prove some conspiracy theory; only to be found days later wandering the corridors of the Hitchhiker's Guide building looking for Zarniwoop, a free lunch and a stiff drink, but not in that order.
Zaphod: Which proves I was there. Right?
Trillian: I wasn't.
Zaphod: Wow, totally too much excitement, adventure and really wild things.
Trillian: All hallucinations.
Zaphod: Hey, the Total Perspective Vortex was not an hallucination.
Trillian : Or, you had one pan-galactic gargleblaster too many.
Zaphod: That's not technically possible.
