What say you to an expedition to Barcelona around Easter time?

At the moment I am thinking cheap flights (maybe Stansted with Easyjet) and I can hopefully wangle us a cheap hotel from the company I used to work for. 3 or 4 nights?

Haven't been before and have wanted to go for ages so if anyone is interested in a city break in April time let me know. Will be booking it up sometime in the New Year.

For those of you contemplating this, I have been doing some research and my (very) provisional itinerary/prices are as follows:

Perhaps go first week in April (2nd-6th?) to avoid main Easter hols. TBC

Flights with Easyjet out of either Gatwick/Luton/Stansted depending on where people have to come from. These range anywhere between £60-£100 pp return.

I have a couple of hotels which have been recommended. Those who came to Nice will know it won't be the Ritz but they will be clean, perfectly reasonable rooms at a good price and central. How long are you gonna spend in the hotel anyway??? (unless you're Pete and sleep until 4pm) These are about £40-£50 pp per night so if we went for 4 nights = £200 max.

So all in all you're looking at about £250-£300 each. 3 or 4 nights can be discussed. I would prefer 4 so we can do a thorough job.

Anymore for any more? Want to maybe book this within the next fortnight.

I can indeed make it for 2-6 April. However, I think that 6 April is Good Friday, so it will be during the Easter hols. I don't suppose it will matter though.

Bugger I didn't realise the 6th was Good Friday, thought it was the one after that. Arse. Wanted to avoid the main Easter hols.

No, I can't I'm afraid. Am at college. Arse, feck and other such words.

Well school hols aren't until the 5th april down here in devon so you may want to see if that's the case for other areas in the country too. You may well find Barcelona bearable from the 2nd to the 6th.

Although all the posh hob nob private school types would have finished by then I suppose.

Hertfordshire schools start their hols on the 2nd. Why are we worried about this? Is it because it'll cost more or because we want as few brats around as possible?

I'm thinking price and also the airports and roads will be more busy and therefore more delays etc......should be all right once you get there though, although the spaniards (sorry Catalans I should say) will be celebrating easter considering they're catholic and all so you may find that prices will be higher there also and maybe accommodation more busy -

ahh Barcelona is cool as beans though - the food market just off the ramblas is stunning and the port olympique is quite odd as the beach is so fake and if you walk just a few streets back from it you see that all the paupers have been outpriced from living on the seafront - oh and the gothic sector is worth a visit...guadi's (spelling?) cathedral is massive and i didnt get to go to the bull ring or the garden thingy by guadi due to stinking hangover - but i think it's worth going as it will always be popular and busy any way.

Well we could do 2nd - 6th I suppose. I'm just waiting to hear from Nils (mate from Uni) as to what dates he can do. Watch this space.

Has a decision been made? I only ask because I will be on the correct side of the Atlantic in early April and would be curious to see if British Customs officers were as touchy about Americans reentering the UK via Barcelona as they were via Nice.
Also, of course, for the laughs-- although those are unlikely to involve any Customs officers (and more likely to involve dogs that drive cars).

The status is thus: I am waiting on a friend from Uni to confirm (dont think he will) other than that Jonnyboy and I are all systems go!

The dogs driving cars thing was when we saw a dog sitting in the passenger seat of some car in Nice, but it was doing a nonchalant, arm-resting-on-the-door, leering-out-the-window thing which made it look like it was actually driving. I remember laughing quite a lot. I guess you had to be there though (which you were Sammyboy, so job's a good-un).

Liverpool -> Barcelona, arriving Tuesday, 21:00
Barcelona -> Stansted, departing Friday, 21:55

Hotel Rialto - looking forward to seeing the fossil exhibition.

Spoke to Warren about the trip - he's not coming because an oven purchase.
