King
To all you tech people: The forum seems to be a little buggy recently: I've had a couple of post disappear and reappear later and it seems if you type
King
(the pound sign) the rest of the post doesn't appear.
DanSon
ooh that's interesting let's try that. this will cost you
DanSon
by george you are right. my server must be anti-capitalist. up the commies.

I'll get it sorted out.
Tart
Dan, if it helps in any way, the post is actually truncated in the database as well as soon as the £ character is seen.

It also happens if I try and use the SQL toolbox to insert the record manually.
I think it must to do with the POST'd data and how the server / script handles it, the £ character must mean something odd it's not the usual culprit to this sort of thing, e.g. & or @ or =

Edit:
From the Debug info that the forum gives the £ symbol doesn't get ascii encoded like most of the other stuff. (like single quotes, double quotes, etc...)

Again I don't know whether this is a server issue / script issue / php version issue / encoding type issue or what.
King
I love it when you talk dirty

I also seem to have some extra debug information at the bottom of the page; I'm sure it's all very interesting but I don't know what

Eh?
DanSon
It's deep. very very deep....

I'll leave it for you to ponder more.
DanSon
Right I believe it is an encoding issue.
It looks like this database wants all funny symbols to be utf8_encode($var) before being inserted into the DB and then utf8_decode($var) after being extracted.

I have no idea why it doesn't just do this by default as both php and mysql have utf8 as the default.

Does the board script have a setting you can change to use utf8? I'll go have a gander myself but if anyone knows, pipe up.

well, using the powers pooed upon me by god, I delcare a new currency. The pound is no longer. Introducing the all new uberpound denoted by the symbol:

£

One uberpound will be equivalent to infinity old pounds.

On a completely irrelated note, we have decided to introduce a fee of one uberpound per use of the word "feck". To be donated to me and pete, split evenly, for good causes and kebabs.
jonnyploy
Seriously, what the fecj is going on?

It appears that Dannyboy has lost his mind.

Also 'irrelated'? Is that really a word? (And before you ask I realise I've used the word 'fecj' in this post and that it's also not a word, but even so...)
King
On another note I can't seem to upload photos. I get the following error:

QUOTE
THE FOLLOWING ERROR(S) WERE FOUND
The requested file upload failed because suitable permissions have not been enabled on the 'uploads' directory. Please contact the board administrator and inform them of this error.

Consider yourselves informed.
DanSon
possibly permissions on one of the loadbalanced servers. been at wimbledon all day and am too knackered now but will have a look at this when i'm more awake.
King
Your boss allowed you time off for Wimbledon? On a Sunday? Will wonders never cease? (Probably the best day of the tourney - even had a British winner.)
Sammyboy
Tourney? Get a grip
King
Verilly I say; whan that Aprile whast shawn its loosty squier, a grate tourney of tennous we were shewn.

What?

I don't even know why I said it; I don't really like tennis. Consider me chastened.

In case anyone else didn't understand pete's post, that was his way of saying that he has fixed Badgerfest's problems.

It took him approximately 2 minutes, once I had let him out of his cage (or rather into my server's cage).

Bravo indeed.
DanSon
Spoketh too soon. Tried to send a PM to Herr Woz about my XDA lead and got:

mySQL query error: SELECT m.mgroup_others, m.id, m.name, m.msg_total, m.view_pop, m.email_pm, m.language, m.email, me.vdirs, g.g_max_messages, g.g_use_pm FROM ibf_members m, ibf_groups g
LEFT JOIN ibf_member_extra me ON (m.id=me.id)
WHERE LOWER(m.name) IN ('thewoz')
AND m.mgroup=g.g_id

Similar to the problem I fixed in February. This post has the details.

Dan, open ssh on the firewall for tg6 and I'll fix it.

Long term: We should look around for a new forum script. Invision Board v2.0 is getting too old.
