Full Version: Need decent ISP

Dude,

At the office we're currently on Metronet who were pretty decent but have now been bought out by PlusNet and become complete toss. We have had 5-10% packetloss throughout the day for the last two days. It feels like 56k (and page loads are often 4-5KBps)

They arn't giving much in the way of information when we contact their CS.

So if they can't fix this fastish I want to consider other options. I am actually a fan of Cable but NTL don't reach out here. We're also not particulary near a substation so currently our max connect is 2mbps (when it actually works).

What options? Will different cable companies be able to make a crappy connection work better or is this all really down to BT and Metronet are going to be as good as anyone else (ie Eclipse!).

Suggestions welcome...along with offers of free 20mbps ADSL2 ;o)

Dan

p.s. We tried Satellite internet years ago. £3000+ a year and constant 700ms lag due to signal transit time. Was a total nightmare.

db sync issues meant this new topic didn't show on the forum summary as existing. this reply should hopefully show it up.

that did confuse me, especially as it showed up on the RSS feed...

Anyway, ISP's, their all shit - don't trust Eclipse any more than the rest of them. But I do know people on the inside, including me so support might not be bad.

Just don't count on being able to achieve (throughput) speeds over 1Mbps unless you're using P2P traffic, when it's more like 5Kbps in the evenings...

maybe i'm over-exagerating (or however you spell that)...
