This is pretty nerdy, you have been warned. Its also a bit stream of consciousness too, so feel free to pick sentences at random:
Wave is reasonably seriously blowing my mind. So, in typical fashion, I went to the work library to check out every book to do with python that they had....
This time however I stopped for a think. Given that I have a background in C and a little experience in objective C thanks to Apple, should I be junking that and moving onto yet another language, staying where I am and getting good with obj C (I appreciate not many people use it) or maintaining the lot and seeing what happens.
I also grabbed a book on android, but it feels like getting to a non-beginner position with one mobile dev setup and then grabbing another one, even it it is owned by google is probably not the most efficient approach given that all the graphics and db work is pretty portable. Is java going to survive the combination of python and c++. Work seem to love it, but I don't know if that's necessarily a long term strategy.
This is hopefully going to lead into a heated discussion about the direction things are taking, but we shall see.
My thinking as of 9:51 am on 31 July, is that I should be writing iPhone games, with an eye to making them easy to port to python + pygame and then giving away free python versions on my website.
Where do you guys think things are going? Is google going to have the clout to really make Python 'the replacement for c++' in the games industry as this guy thinks? http://techreport.com/discussions.x/16713
To further complicate things, it seems to me that phone development is a good way for a one person/very small team to reach a large audience with their software. Is this the only route a 'startup' can afford to take, or are there other options? XNA I suppose is a similar if less good route.
