Full Version: Blatant brand plugging

Peeps - a buddy of mine has started an extreme sports brand out of Wales. All fair trade and all that. I'm working with him to produce some tees with my cartoons on them. I've even put down the inspired words on the site (check out sports we do).

Would much appreciate a butcher's from anyone who can spare a mo.
ArcEnd - Fearless Movement

All comments welcome. My tee series is yet to be released - watch this space!

Muchos love

First thoughts: They'd have to be pretty bloody good jeans for Two hundred quid. I'd want breakfast in the morning at least...

Second thoughts: I like your surfing talk (snigger 'length of your equipment') but you may want to talk to a skater to get the low-down on in-lines: you missed Roller derby and just plain street skating (getting from A to B - sometimes in a rather large crowd).

I really like the hats - a lot - especially 'Aunti Jilly' and I would be interested in buying them and would stretch to 30 quid for Auntie Jilly but wouldn't pay that for a simple skull cap.

I think the girls tees shots are quite dark and a bit odd, I dont really get the apeal of girls looking unwashed jumping in the air or lolling against walls as that's not my idea of extreme sports, more 'the day after the night before' - but that's just me and i am really very square. My take on extreme sports is burn all your energy doing silly stuff like surf, snowboard, walk mountains during the day, then get nice and snuggly and warm in my nice snuggle clothes and then stuff my face with food and then conk out. So I would have shots of girls with giant pies lying in bed in their hoodies - the perfect combo! ha ha.

It seems that this brand is more 'urban' than i would normally go for and I am not struck particularly with the idea that the company is all that involved with the sports it says it does section. I am guessing that is a part of the site under development. I think that this 'sports we do' section may be more interesting if it could talk about where competitions take place and where you can see the brand sponsoring these sports and include catchy photos and quotes. Also, you can tell its written by a man or a lesbian - with the 'pulling' quip in the snowboarding section. A bit daft to write that if you are trying to attract people who are genuine about being an extreme mentalist, who are 'ethical' and 'fair', more than likely to be through the pulling stage if spending hundreds on jeans and if the brand isn't supposed to be cheesy.

I like the idea of blogs etc from sponsored athletes although there is a typo on 'blogs' in this section - just to be picky

BUT I like the graphics and the ethical idea, similar to Howies www.howies.co.uk, maybe if it was cheaper than Howies it would turn my head more...

Overall, I would be interested in buying the hoodies and tees and hats (not a jewellery girl though) but I am not too drawn by the way the tees and hoodies are presented on the site. I never buy jeans really unless I can try them on as im a short arse with lots of curvy bits andbranded stuff is always too long or doesn't accomodate for good ol' traditional yet unfashionable pear shaped hips!

I found the brand interesting but stopped reading the blurbs for the clothes and in other parts as I found it all a bit wordy for a website. I have seen a few companies and organisations presenting themselves as a team of nice people and I like this one the most as its so simple, with a very clear identity http://www.newdevonarmy.co.uk/index.php. They are becoming quite a culty sort of thing in devon and I spot their 'nda' cows all over, even when i was zipping past a snowboarder in france this year with one stuck to his board.

I hope you don't think im being negative, I think actually I am just demonstrating my own weaknesses as a human being in this feedback - skinflint, skim reader, lazy, never pays attention to detail, short attention span. But isn't that a typical style for an extreme sports enthusiastic, in education they call this style of learning or operating 'Kinaesthetic'.

Purely from a webdesign point of view it looks like the shop part (browsing products) has been put in after the rest of the design was complete. I'd see if you can customise the shop layout (CSS+some images) to fit in with the rest of the more 'edgy' design rather than those clean right angles and straight lines.

As far as fashion feedback I'm not your man. I still wear my giant hoodie I bought when I was 12 and rarely spend more than £50 on anything that isn't a suit.

Woooooooooo hah!

Talk about feedback. Danke! I shall pass this on to the boys and see what they have to say about it. It's just been launched and prone to have bugs like you both mention.

As for the unwashed look, these are actual extreme sportsters and friends of the site. The gang as it were. So I guess that's as original as it gets. Of course catchy photos and stuff will come as time goes by - the guy who started the brand was actually in the US recently at an extreme sports comp - so its early days yet.

"Also, you can tell its written by a man or a lesbian - with the 'pulling' quip in the snowboarding section."

I am both of those things so you got it in one! tongue.gif

I think NDA and Howies are where the site aims to go (albeit NDA's identity also has typos and we say similar things thru the site - so at least we're on the same page there). Howie's have been around since 1995 - we launched this year. It's early days yet so there's much more to come.

Keep it coming! x

Agree on the jeans front. Second - you're right - as my most extreme sport is juggling a baby. her bottle and a remote, some research on the talk would've helped.
RosieBear
hmmm maybe i was unfair to say THEY were unwashed, it's just that the photos make them look grimey! Oh have I just made that worse!? Why not have pics of them in the clothes actually doing their sports!?
Jennie
So I am clearly NOT who this site is aiming at as I still own, and wear, a hoodie I bought when I was fifteen, but my major comment would be that it takes a lot of "clicking" to get to a large enough picture of the t-shirt/hoodie/jewellery/whatever to actually see the product. Maybe a drop down menu somewhere? Maybe the pics get bigger when you mouse over them?
I'll be honest, although my sport is not extreme at all, if I had a spare £200, £25 would be spent on clothing and the rest on a new riding helmet--so the jeans would be WAY out of my league.

Ditch the clothes and just have pictures of those grimy unwashed dirty girls naked. Punters can buy wall posters for £30 and get a free beanie.

Govi - you know you're tempted.

Jennie - you're snowboarded, which seems to count as an 'extreme' sport. Maybe they should define actual feats in each sport which, having been completed, define the performer as 'extreme'. Setting this bar could be the basis of an interesting social debate, hosted by the site.

Oh constructive criticism.

Well other than my points above I'd agree with the tenor of everyone else; the style of both the site and the clothes does see rather urban - more parkour than surf-wear. If you're going for the whole extreme range you'll need more photos in rural climes and perhaps less of a grey colour scheme. There may well be plenty of pics somewhere of fell runners in their natural environs but I didn't surf that far if there are and I wasn't getting that vibe.

I'm also not quite sure of the point of the site. The brand doesn't seem to have anything in particular in mind if you like: The NDA has a definite aim, it appears, to spread the cow-shaped flag of Devon across the world, so promoting the janner way (and selling some stuff). It's also a little ramshackle. ArcEnd seems more slick - 'We're ethical; buy our t-shirt'. Also until they have a decent design there's not much chance people will buy a t-shirt; at the moment I'd be spending money on a t-shirt with ArcEnd written on it - and unless ArcEnd aligns itself strongly with badger-flinging I don't see the point.

As to the good: I like the concept of an ethical, sustainable brand and the site is nicely laid out in a swish manner. I like the jewellry and the knittingy stuff 'cos it seems like something special, something different, besides being ethical etc. I wonder if you might suggest selling the knitting patterns and wool as well as the products...there may be a small contingent who'd rather knit their own.

Um...hope that helps and ain't too critical. I should say I admire the attempt to actually do something. Nice one centurian.

and I wander who our 'small contingent of knitters' are? Or should I say ' a knitter' or 'Jess'?!

Which reminds me, has she put together those woollen Y fronts you requested for winter? We all know how cold you get and are concerned your beau understands how best to accommodate your needs!
