I need a little help from your skeptic heads: It turns out that Jess is scared of Jurassic Park due to the whole seeing it too young thing. So help me out by pointing out just how ridiculous the plot is and how impossible it would be to create dinosaurs in real life.
Ta lots.

Jurassic Park is real though, right?
Seriously though, just go

You're not helping Jon.

I know I could simply internet it (thanks for the link, it will help he get over this terrible affliction) but I'm looking for more than just facts; I want the added scorn for the filmmaker's ideas that the 'Fest can provide.

I'm not the person to ask on this - I love Jurassic Park, and therefore cannot muster any scorn. Sorry.
I still have nightmares about that dinosaur that spits black gloop in your face....
Nightmares at how RIDICULOUS it is.....
...I mean C'MON! Dinosaurs don't do that! In real live they just BITE YOUR FRICKIN' HEAD OFF!!
That more helpful?

p.s. just play her the theme song - how can such a peaceful tune be part of a scary film??
Thanks Dan, I'm sure that will reassure her.
I too think JP is a fantastic film - I'm doing this so we can watch it together and apreiciate the lovely dino-fantasy without and excess of cowering, wimpering and moistening of the sofa. I still think it's possible to scorn the scientific credentials of a film you love - it doesn't bother me that the fire hose in Die Hard would have cut him in half, but it's better when they are correct (a urine soaked shirt will bend Cowboy-era prison bars as in Shanghai Noon). Ah Hollywood Science, I loved that show.

Just teach her the song!
I'm a dinosaur...

I think the thing with Jurassic Park is that, while it is totally not possible to do the stuff they do in the film, you need to have a certain level of scientific knowledge to realise that.
It's not like it's The Core where even the most rudimentary amount of common sense will lead you to the conclusion that EVERYTHING EVERYONE SAYS OR DOES IN THIS FILM IS IMPOSSIBLE/WRONG AND EVERYONE INVOLVED DESERVES TO BURN! THE PIGEONS WOULD NOT FLY INTO THE FUCKING BUILDINGS! THEY STILL HAVE EYES! MORONS!

Surely you could plead this case with pretty much every horror film for being 'not real'?
Doesn't make them any less scary though.
Alien - not real. Terminator - not real. Exorcist - not real.
Well you could try logic I guess.
I think the problem is not so much the scare factor, more the incipient dread of watching caused by the fact that IT COULD COME TRUE!
That's no fun though. Besides you have there three unsinkable rubber ducks: aliens, the future and religion. There's a case for all of them to be possible. Jurrasic Park is science (ish) and so should be (dis-)provable.

This sounds like a phobia to me, which means no amount of rationalising is going to help. Ever tried explaining to someone with arachnophobia why they shouldn't be afraid of spiders? It never works.
The only real way around a phobia is to confront it and inure yourself to the effects over time.
Watch all three Jurassic Park films in a row - by the end Jess will be bored of dinosaurs.
Dress up in a dinosaur costume and chase her until she's tired and kicks you in the head. October 31st isn't far away. Perfect excuse.
Dan
Excellent: dress up in a dinosaur costume and roar at her while she sits in the chair from A Clockwork Orange watching dino-fantasy on repeat...that should do it.

Yes I'm posting to old threads because I've just woken up from hibernation.
Jyoti is petrified of Ghostbusters to this day. Jurassic Park is just another ball game. What worked in the end?
