1. Flangecrimper
2. ABC Multiballs
3. Dr Krang
4. McCoffee and doughnuts
I've found McCoffee and doughnuts highly unsatisfactory in the past; stops virtuall no viruses and makes the keyboard all sticky...
Microsoft's own one is supposed to be actually pretty good.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows...ntials-downloadFor anti virus the big names are AVG and Antivir though I personally don't really like them that much.
Firewalls - ZoneAlarm was a good name a few years back but not sure now.
If you do want to go paid we've used NOD32 (by Eset) and it's been excellent. Though not free.
Also heard good things about Panda - a cloud based one (whatever that means):

+1 for flangecrimper, but as Dannyboy says, make sure its v3... I heard v4 (beta) has some interesting benchmarks...
On a serious note, Windows firewall, and MS Security Essentials is all I've been running for years. Never had any problems.
Hmm. OK thanks guys: Jess has just turned to the dark side (iPhone 4S), requiring a computer with iSatan running on it. As I'm not willing to sacrifice my netbook to the Dark Apple forces we've ressurected her crappy, Vista-running laptop which claimed it couldn't run Zonealarm (which I use on the netbook) and had a thoroughly out-of-date Norton 360 running.
So very, very slow.
Let's hope Flangecrimper frees up some much needed pipeline capacity.

Dude, just suck it up and put iTunes on the netbook. I know it's shit, but it's not going to destroy your pc and you're not the one who's going to be using it.
Your very very slow vista computer is probably because it is a perfectly decent computer running vista.
Install windows 7 and boom!
Better yet install an SSD card and BOOM!

I agree: blowing it up is the best path forward.
Yes that is roughly what I meant. Wear safety goggles.
