5) Boney M - From the rivers of babylon (this is a family favourite, along with when the lion sleeps tonight, honestly, awesome)
I seem to remember a 'Boney M Gold' vinyl record knocking around when I was a kid too. 'Rivers Of Babylon' was a favourite, but it was overshadowed by 'Rasputin' and 'Daddy Cool'.
Classics.
All my pop music memories as a child are due to my mum as my dad only listens to classical music (and not very much of that). Rollings Stones featured heavily (and the Beatles, obviously), also lots of Motown, particularly Stevie Wonder and Otis Redding. The not quite as cool stuff included Tom Jones, Neil Diamond and Johnny Mathis.
Three tunes that I remember from my journeys to school in my friend's parents' car are:
King of Rock and Roll - Prefab Sprout ("hot dog, jumping frog, Albuquerque" - possibly the greatest lyric of all time).
It's Got To Be Perfect - Fairground Attraction.
Abracadabra - Steve Miller Band.
