Goldeneye2:
Gamespot video interviewinteresting, although its done by EA, not Rare.
so its probably gonna be bollocks.
that new hitman also looks the bollocks. saw some trailer on tv.
OK, ive renamed this the games thread as we have dedicated threads for tv film music and books, yet we probably spend more time playing games!
anywho...
E3 is on at the mo, which if you dont know, is a showcase of all groovy things coming up.
like:
halo 2
gran turismo 4
doom 3
aswell as new hardware and services like Xbox live enhancements etc so i'll summarise the good stuff that has been shown so far.
HALO 2: Multiplayer
At last year's E3, they showed a single player map/mission which included holding to weapons at a time, and using the left and right triggers to fire them independently. it also demonstrated how to 'ghost-jack' (think of it as car-jacking in a ghost) whilst a beasty elite is in it.
all those things are still intact, and the showed us round a multiplayer map ideal for CTF games. entitled Zanzhibar. a mixture of the beach level and hang em high from halo 1.
it all looks blatantly blatant. and its all gonna be on xbox live!
speaking of Xbox live,
there is gonna be a video camera attachment to the xbox pad which will be used for videochat over the internet, allowing us to all point and laugh at drew and actually be able to see him too!
MSN messenger integration and voice chat has also been confirmed.
EA games, responsible for all the sports games aswell as time splitters 3 and the bond games, until now have not made games compatible with xbox live i think due to agreements with sony and their (wank) online play. but E3 has announced that all the new sports games will be playable on xbox live. that means fifa 2005 online tournaments sam-boy!
with doom 3 being released this summer on xbox (and apparently, it was developed "along side" the PC version so its not a direct port which basically = better game) it looks like its gonna be worth getting xbox live if you havent already, and so we can play online jobby-efforts.
through in Pro Evo 4 for good measure, and its looking like im finishing uni at about the right time!
thats my installment for now.
im thinking about buying a gamecube. for mario kart purposes. if anyone has any comments or words of wisdom, let me know.
danny boy,
i played hitman contracts on the xbox...
and tbh i was very disapointed.
get Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow instead

Hey, you're meant to be a computer whizz-kid. I'm meant to be the one who says things like 'online jobby-efforts' when I don't have a clue what I'm on about.
apologies...
how about
get xbox live because then we can exploit the interconnectivity that the 512kbit async dsl link provides to participate in comunial gatherings of the electronic kind, 5183473984....13.4..... 345gigaflops....spangle....5972346.8

E3 Halo 2 Demo [WMV9, 14.3 MB]
Smart as! That does look sharp; Halo tweaked. Nice.
anyone who has a xbox and a pc who is also on broadband should look at this
Team X-LinkIts xbox tunneling software which means that it fools you xbox into thinking that people on the internet are actually connected to your xbox in a system link mode.
by doing this, any game with system link option can be played online with random people
i've tested it, and although halo doesnt quite work because there is a delay, things like gotham 2 and other games that are designed for online play work perfectly...
so im thinking
me, tart, noj, pedro, sampie, + some randoms... its worth a badger
download it, stick it on your pc, load it up and go into the channel you want, start your xbox game, go into "looking for games (system link)" and hey presto, online games are found. genius

So this is where you all are.
I have a question.
How fucking hard is Ninja Gaiden?
That is all
Jesus Christ! It lives!
I don't know how hard ninja gaiden is having never played it.
Play Tiger Woods its grrrrreeeeeaaaaaattt! (see what i did there... Tiger... frosties... catchphrase. Sometimes i amaze myself with my sheer wit and cutting edge-ness.)
Clifton get over here you filthy whore! 5x! Detention! Suspended! And in that order!

I have just downloaded the nintendo and supernintendo emulators from the net. I think super mario brothers is still the dog's so there.
Ninja Gaiden rocks and Zelda II - yeah baby.

This week I have been mostly playing...
Amped Freestyle Snowboarding 2.
It's getting just as annoying and hard as the first one. But it's just so much fun. As is Project Gotham 2, yet on a whole other level of difficulty.
Is Ninja Gaiden actually any good? it looked a bit pants to me.
Also are any of you other xbox owners on Kai XLink yet? If so what are your usernames, mine's: theChrisWalker
Taken from Eurogamer.net
Microsoft has issued a release this morning revealing that Halo 2 will hit UK retailers on Thursday, November 11th of this year, just a couple of days after the November 9th American date announced at E3 this year. Perhaps Peter Moore can get "/ 11th" added to his November 9th tattoo...
The release makes no mention of territories outside the UK, although a quick word with Microsoft this morning reveals that the Nov 11th date applies to all European territories - except, interestingly, Switzerland, France and Belgium, where the 11th is a Bank Holiday. They can all look forward to getting hold of it on the 10th instead. Lucky sods.
There's certainly little point elaborating on what Halo 2 is. If you don't know by now, you're probably on the wrong planet. We recommend checking out Mars - it's great there, and there's probably a reward if you find that stupid tin can thing we lost. It's named after that You've Been Framed bloke. Should stick out.
Meanwhile, Halo 2 developer Bungie has released another "3D screenshot" on its website, showcasing something it likes to call "Hogball", which builds on the fine work conducted by fans who like to use explosives to propel everyone's favourite offroader the Warthog through the air. In this instance, the team stacks fusion cores and then blows them up to try and send the Hog through a windmill.
So there.
Now I know that you all love your X-Boxi but
Index are selling the Gamecube for £40! I'm almost tempted you know.
8 a side hogball... pete it's gonna be special!!
The 3D screenshot that King referred to is
here.
KotOR 2 Trailer doesn't look all that much different really...no bad thing of course.
No different aesthetically, but more story! I'm there! long live the evil Jedi!
pro evo soccer 4 (aka iss) will be out on xbox on november 12th
the day after halo2!
but there are strong rumours that it will be on xbox live too, so sam pie, droo, and even king should look into it for a bit of 4 player online shanon higgins.

With the upcoming onslaught of Halo 2 and Pro Evo 4 I think it is time we looked at the MORE IMPORTANT games coming up.
Thats right, I'm talking about TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR 2005!
Halo 2 my arse
The fightback starts here...
Halo 2 will be the nuts, kinda goes without saying, especially the online poosibilities. I hope all you fools will be planning on using Kai as well as Live for us Xbox Lively (!?) challenged people.
Not that I will even have a phone line til after 12th oct (BT bastards) let alone an internet connection.
So without a ready source of new media (inc the final episode of 6 feet under broadcast last sunday goddamit), it might well be back to KOTOR (in readiness for the sequel - january i think?) and maybe even start with Baldurs Gate II, certainly with healthy amounts of PGR2 and possibly even might have a good go at Second Sight, which looks like a reasonable 3rd person shooter with added telekinetic fun.
BTW anyone with PGR2 and Live, or not but a chipped box, should get the content upgrade, there's some quality cars out there.
Muw ha ha !! I have an X3. I rule. It's all over.
Especially for you Clifton (dodgy pogo-pin matrix chip stylee person) you know what I mean.
interesting... hows the install of the x3? same number of solder points? whats the details... i cant be arsed to look myself
Easy as pie.
Just like the 2.6 install (*cough* *cough*, I got mango xbox working in like two minutes when I got home, there Was a loose pin. D'oh!)
Just a 16pin header with two pins out, then d0, hdd, lan and a power switch control (quick press Mod on, Long press Mod off, power+eject Backup ROM) which has nice plug type connectors.
The new FlashBIOS is cool too. that goes for the 2.6 and the X3, you can flash over LAN, from HDD, from CD/DVD...
Basically if you're thinking of getting a new chip, IT's the Daddy.
Install went perfect first time, well, not quite first time, I did put the chip on backwards once, but that's any easy mistake to make.
Only 5 days til I get a phone line now, Soon internet too, then the world, muwh ha ha!

Sorry I was being a bit vague. You really want to flip the mobo and take the d0 from behind, the hole being much wider from that angle, also obivously if you have a v1.0 then the LPC holes are prefilled so a wire install is the way forwards with a simple 1- black, 2-brown, 6-red, 7-orange, 8 - yellow, 9 - green, 10 - blue, 11 - purple, 13 - grey and 14 - white configuration. and with a v1.6 you have the whole LPC re-build thing to do which is a nightmare but fortunately I haven't had to do one of those yet.

RotS video game trailerIf that's gameplay it looks shit hot...
No, you're concentrating on the wrong aspect my cynical friend; more ace-looking gaming.
Star Wars games are great, i haven't looked at the link yet mike, but the URL looks the the EP3 video game.
I want KotOR2.
On a different note, anyone else think Halo2 finished a bit abruptly, I was waiting for the next level to load and wham, the credits start rolling!
What a waste of space.
Now they have to make Halo 3 and this whole hype thing can start again. bollox.
It is indeed Ep3 and it looks fecking fantastic, whether that is reflected by gameplay or not we simply can't say.
Have you been practising your piratical behaviour again?
has anyone got the english version of halo: part deux?
i dont want to play the single player in french
also has anyone preordered the limited edition or got a download of the bonus disk?
i think every where has sold out of the limited edition copy
No, you do want to play it.
Towards the end you get to play as a Conevnant elite with a team of a couple of elites and two hunters. kick ass.
This is my only oppertunity to laugh in the faces of all you X-boxers out there (and you mostly won't care much anyway but hey) and say that GTA: SA is most fun and absolutely massive.
Carry on.

Not really about games, but I want some DVD ripping software. Any recommendations? Obviously I don't want to pay for it.
Do you just want to rip it (e.g to a hard disk) or do you want to copy a DVD to a DVDr/rw
Cos I have never done just a straight DVD-to-DVD copy but the software I use for just DVD ripping is called smartripper.
You can get it from:
http://www.doom9.org/software.htmAnd they have a good little page on how to use it and Doom9.org too:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/sr.htm
I just want to rip, so that's cool cheers.

Okay, Smartripper is cool, but a DVD rip takes up too much space so now I want to compress the files. I've tried a program called DVD2AVI, but I can't seem to stop it from creating two files - one for the video and one for the audio. What I'd like ideally is to convert each film into two chunks of <700mb so that I have the option of putting them onto two cd's. And I obviously want the video and audio together.
Keep it as simple as possible please as I am a bit dim when it comes to things like this.
I use DVD2AVI but the process is pretty complicated.
There are easier ways to do it tho, some programs that will do it all for you tho.
The most popular at the moment is Auto Gordian Knot.
There is a guide on doom9.org.
LinkUnfortunately I can't link straight to it , but the MPEG4 guides have all you need to know. I use XviD personally.
Just got Jade Empire

....its very similar to KOTOR, but with sensible fighting instead of the crap turn-based mallarkey. Discuss.
Looks alright might have to get me a copy, but let's be honest, it's just not Star Wars is it.
On the other hand I'm still playing NFSU2 and it's great fun and not Star Wars either so maybe this game has a chance...
Whereas I'm playing FFX-2 which is a little like KOTOR but with changing of clothes during battle...
