QUOTE(Loz @ 19-May-08, 8:24)
what are the times to be at the boat and to leave the boat?
and shall we divvy up some stuff to bring, boozage etc?
Pick-up time is between 3 and 4 on Friday. Boat drop-off is 9 - 9.30 on Monday morning.
It's probably wise to divvy up some stuff though I was thinking bring your own booze (Dan suggested a keg which sounded like a plan). We could always buy tea, coffee, milk, bread, OJ, eggs, bacon, cornflakes, etc. in Oxford (I'm sure) and have some sort of £10 each kitty to pay for it...I was thinking we'd probably eat out for dinner as a meal for 10 is not something I'd like to cook in a galley.

Bit late for this I know but... Williams?
Hmm yes a bit late for the Williams I'm afraid.
The boatyard will take cash or card for the deposits.
I've received payment from Jon, Dan, Sam, Loren, Noj & Pete (thank-you guys) and the credit card bill has been paid.
Map of boatyard's position here
http://www.rent-a-keg.com/how_to_rent_a_keg.html88 pints for £110 or so (eg Fosters)
Or about £12/each for about 10 pints each. On tap. Cold. On board.
What do you think?
Dan
p.s. I'd personally be up for the keg of Erdinger wiessbeers for only £85+VAT (though this might be San Miguel)

Sounds awesome although the whole thing about them having to deliver it on the Friday, set it up for us and then collect it on Monday could be a problem. Fine if we can decide what time they arrive on the Friday and Monday but if not we're screwed. Also, I think the boat yard owners are going to jump all kinds of accurate conclusions if we rock up with a keg of booze and may get upset.
Would be quality though.
they can't not let us have the boat =p as long as we don't sink the thing we'll get our deposit back!
I'll check about the delivery times.
I'm planning on training it to Oxford. Does anyone who is driving fancy picking me up from the statiion or is anyone else training it who might want to coincide and get a taxi together.
Word.
noj droo and i are all meeting in southampton before going up to oxford on friday.
i dunno whats easier by train tho
re the keg...
theres a £35 delivery/colleciton fee, and another £35 for the rental of the tap/cooling thing...
then plus vat, it works out closer to £200...
k scratch the keg idea. For £2 a pint we might as well buy a crate.
I believe my brother said kegs cost about 50 bucks in miami.
Bloody UK alcohol tax.
Dan
on a late notice note....
assuming there is power on the barge...
would it be an idea to bring my 360 and a lcd tv?
im only thinking for post pub late night gamage etc
I will be arriving in Oxford about 12:34.
Anyone planning to be there at that time want to meet for lunch before we head to the boatyard?
I vote yes to post-pub, 360 based, drunken antics.
I think Jon and Sam'll be there; I'll be leaving work at 12 ish so I should be around from about 1.30 or so.
There'll probably be a TV onboard but the inventory doesn't mention it. It does say
'Although some of the boats have 240 volts, you should not bring your home electrical appliances as they could damage the boat's electrical system.'
balls
droo noj and i will be coming up with an ETA of about 1-1:30
do we need sleeping bags etc? im a bit confuddled about what to bring
Sorry, I should have said. I was hoping the attachment situation would be sorted but I'll try e-mailig everyone tonight with the info I've been given.
As to what to bring:
Bedding is provided as are towels (I think) but it would be best to bring your own towel.
You''l need to bring waterproofs as there is only one set on board for the driver and ifit rains it can be lonely out there.
Some decent wet weather shoes would be good as well.
It might not rain, in which case some shorts could be in order. Bring a couple of changes of clothing (it's only 3 nights).
If you want specialist coffe bring that along. I'll bring some tea. I was thinking of going out and buying bread, milk etc. from Oxford or somewhere...
In short we're not going to the arctic for 6 months, an overnight bag should be fine.
SHIT
The Thames is in flood, so they're not letting narrow boats out on it. They don't reckon it'll be going down until Monday.
We have a choice: postpone until another date or go from Tardebigge near Worcester in the Bromsgrove area.
TardebiggeTart's up for going the extra mile this weekend.
I think I am too.

That is a total bitch. Tardebrigge (weird name) is fine with me though.
pants... but yes, im still in
Yeah that's fine with me too.
Although I've organised a client meeting in Oxford for Monday afternoon off the back of the original plan =/
balls to the weather.
It had better be sunny by the weekend to make up for screwing us about.
Argh, although it confirms my long standing belief that Oxford = the suck.
Count me in.

So can you make it then?
is anyone planning on bringing an acoustic guitar?
im thinking if nothing else, its wood, and hollow, so as a floatation aid, its pretty reliable
I am aware of the new location and have been trying to 'recalculate' as the sat nav often says. As i'm leaving from work, i'll try to leave at 1.00pm, but that means that i may be a little late for the 3.00pm deadline.
please don't leave without me and can someone sub me the deposit on their card if i am too late.
also, I have to say i am worried by this talk of waterproofs, what happened to the idyllic waft along the canal. you make it sound like being on a fishing boat in the atlantic!
OK Pete is in as well (in fact he's pretty happy with the situation, Tardebigge being a bit closer to him than Oxford) so I'll go for it.
I'll let you know what details I get. I assume we pick up at the same time. As long as tere are 2 people there in time all is well. We can pick it up and moor while everyone else arrives.
As to waterproofs; I'm English. I'm facing a holiday in England. I take waterproofs. That is all. My Dad says the forecast is fair for the area for the weekend but I'm still bringing a mac. You can still waft along a canal if you look like Captain Birdseye.
Oh and the acoustic sounds like a good idea. I'll bring my air guitar.

Anyone starts 'wafting' in my vicinity and waterproofs will not be sufficient as they will be despatched swiftly into the canal.
Guitar is a good plan. I'll bring my piano and cello. Or not.
Edit: On a deposit related note, I'm thinking that it might be a good idea for those of us who need to leave on Sunday evening (i.e. me, Sampie, Loren, any others?) to have their deposit paid by someone who will actually be around to collect it on Monday morning when the boat is returned.
Thoughts?

Do I need to buy Mario Kart DS for this? I am quite willing to, it has been on my list for a while and I could do with a new game to play.
Brum Canal InfoBit late for this but here you go.
