Bush era in Onion articles.
It's difficult to pick a favourite, but 'Bush Actually President, Nation Suddenly Realises' (May 30, 2001) stands out. Also, the articles from immediately post 9/11 are pretty special:
'American Life Turns Into Bad Jerry Bruckheimer Movie.'
'Hijackers Surprised To Find Selves In Hell.'
'Jerry Falwell: Is That Guy A Dick Or What?'
'U.S. Urges Bin Laden To Form Nation It Can Attack.'

Well if you're going to read the Grauniad then you generally get what you deserve.
There are just two good things about that newspaper:
1. Their cricket coverage
2. Charlie Brooker (see the Books thread for more on him)
While I am moaning, I can't let the grammar in that blog slide. 'The BBC have...'? 'The Guardian have...'?
There was only one BBC and only one Guardian (mercifully) last time I checked.

Technically the use of the word 'have' to refer to the collective is correct if the emphasis is on all the individual members of the collective. Since I think guardian writers are peni, I'm going to take it as bad grammar.

I expect you can amuse yourself further by dangling a carrot while administering this manouevre? Or partaking in a 99 flake ice cream? You could go a long way with this one, creating the tale of the 'ee awws by the see saww' or something? - In fact that would be an excellent name for a porn film.

I know, but then you look at some of the design other people have made and you get more ideas about how stuff could be done. Some people are geniuses, for example one of the hardest ones, 'unpossible' can be done so simply (relatively speaking...

You'd be surprised, I was talking about Compiz to a mate of mine and how, just because my desktops are on a cube I use them more. I couldn't explain it, but he pointed out that when they are on a cube, your brain can visualise a real 3d object, rather than just instantly flicking between multiple virtual desktops which doesn't give you the same tangible feel.
The same is true of this Bump Top idea, the more we can relate to the information on screen the easier it is to work with, however this desk idea has a major drawback - my desk is usually a tip and I can't find anything. I don't want my computer to go the same way, I don't like that it doesn't line my icons up for me neatly (some I'm not going to be bothered to do myself...) and the whole "throwing" things around, thats going to lead to unexpected file copy/moving/printing/deletion because you "missed" what you were aiming for...
Still it is pretty cool and ideas like this will change the way we interact with computers eventually, just not yet...

People sneezing in ultra slow motionFirst 20-30 seconds: slightly erotic.
Then I started to find it funny.
At about 55 seconds it becomes totally disgusting.
Ok, this doesn't really compare to slow motion sneezing, nor is it funny, or particularly entertaining. However I needed to rant about it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8018329.stmthis story is about some woman fired because she rang in sick, too ill to use a PC and was then found to be using facebook.
The moral of the story isn't even mentioned - take the quote the woman gave in her defence:
QUOTE
She said the company had created a fictitious Facebook persona which become "friends" with her, allowing the company to monitor her online activity.
I'm sorry. but you allowed this ficticious person to be your friend?!
I bet you wouldn't do that on the street if a stranger came up asking if they could rummage through your photo collection and what school you went to, where you work, roughly where you lived, your interests / martial status etc...
What a dick. She deserves to be fired.
They probably stuck a picture of some hot male model on the profile and she thought it was her lucky day.

Tart Tart Tart - arent you being a little harsh? What about the fact that her company (read The Man) surreptitiously befriended her on the net only to find a cheap excuse to sack her sorry and ill ass? Personal intenet security aside, I'm sure all of us at one time or another have befriended that strange MrsSinghLonelyHousewifein Delhi@hotmail persona whose profile picture oddly enough happens to be a shapely bottom in a thong, at one time or another. Ok maybe just me, but the moral here is that company bosses are wankers to catch people out like this. Next they'll sack people for crapping and talking on the phone at the same time. Tsk tsk.
